8--This morning clear and fine.  The boys are hichen up.  I must stop writen this in Camp Rock  We now start.  The road is very hilly up and down all  the time.  Timber on both sides of the road. We are in company with 3 other teams goen to Kansas  We now come to Rockport a small town on Rock river.  High hills on 2 sides.  apel orchard on the sides of the hills and lots of timber   We are now goan down the Mo slop   High and lofty bluffs both sides of the road.  We now come to Uniontown   It has 6 or 7 houses and a steam saw mill.  We now  strike out a crose a railroad past a town to our left.  We go 2 miles and camp for dinner.  The boys got some papaus.  Warm and nice today   We start on again . Crose the  the river in a steam boat.  Landed at Brownsville in Nebraska then followed the course of the river 5 miles. Come to a town called Nemehall (Nemaha) on the bank of the Missouri river  This  a small town of  15 or 20 houses. We then struck across the country west   It is very level hear.  Come to a river called Nemaha   We camp on the west bank in a grove of timber. There is a bridge over the river and a grist mill just below the bridge  Hear was a man shot last night in quarrel.  They say that there is ruff and destpradoes around hear We have to watch our cattel close that they are not stole at night  We look like a lot of gipseys. We are in company with 2 other wagons goen to Kansas. lighten  and thunder, no rain. 9--This morning clear and plesent.  Eat brakfast and now make redy to start.  All well.  This is camp Nemahall (Nemaha) We now go thrue grove some what uphill fur some distance.  We now pass thrue a beautiful praria counrtry.  Nice and level  We come to camp at a small river.  Timber on the banks.  cool and cloudy. this is camp Mudy as this is call Mudy  creek.  We now start on our gerney The land is level and drye   Small groves here and there over the priaria.   I  lay down and sleep a nap.  Now Noah halt to know witch road to take.  Nice farms on all sides of us.  We come to a sand creek and camp for the night   It is called Long Branch.  This is camp Rock   The bed up this creek is  a solid rock   Nice stone to build with. 10--This  morning clear and frosty.  We bake bisket fur brakfast the boys are geten redy  to start on again.  We are all well this morning for  witch I am thankful to God for this grate blessen. Mother said all the children seems to enjoy this trip   We now start on our trip   We come to a small town called Table Rock on the Nebraska rail road on the north fork of the Nemahall river. We go out South 2 miles and camp for diner.  This is camp Ponie  Mother is baken camp cakes fur diner   Plesent and warm   We now start on toward Ponce City (Pawnee City) the county seat  of Ponce county.  Some nice bildens here.  I bought a map of Kansas and some bacon. Pass on thru the town and go west 3 miles. pass thrue some nice groves and nice farms and camp in a  grove  fur the night  Mother is baken some camp pies in the frye pan.  We had 2 visitors this even.  Mrs. Wedel and Mrs  Porter.  Had a dandy  chat  They then went back to their camp and invited mother and Teeny to come and see them.  We then turn in for the night, clear and plesent 11-- This morning frosty.  We now get redy to start on again.  This is camp wite house.  There is a nice grove or timber near.  I do not know how long it is I cannot see the end   There must be a thousand akers of timber hear.  We now go thrue a nice farming cuntry.  Ther is some stone houses  hear.  We now turn south and then angel acrose the cuntry.  We pass by a stone quary where loaden stone .  Pass over a small stream of water then over raw priaria.  We halt fur dinner in a grove.  This is camp spring  There is a good spring of water hear there is a store a half mile ahead on the road.  We are goen west now.  We are close to the Kansas line.  Cloudy and winda  We now pass the Marshall county fair. level praria there are timber along the streams and plenty of good stone for belden thrue hear.  We now come to camp in a small stream with timber.  Get super and turn in fur the night   Lighten in the south.  This is camp Kansas as we are in Kansas tonight . 12-This morning clear and windy.  Heavy thunder and liten last night    We have eat brakfast   The boys are getten the horses redy to start on again   All well this morning  We pass on thrue a nice level prairia of 15 miles and come to a town called Marysvill on a railroad and camp for diner.  This is camp Maryville.  Hot and suney today.  Seems like August more than October.  We past over a large river called the Big Blue.  We then went thrue a nice level country for 4 miles and then campt on a small river with timber on its banks fur the night.  Warm and plesent this even.  Mother is maken   appel pyes   Teeny is brewen coffee.  The boys are gettin gras fur the horses.  We see a larg ded crain on the side of the road to day.  We are all well this even fur witch I am truly thinkful to God fur so grate a blessen to us. 13--Last night was hot with thunder and liten.  A littel rain this morning.  Warm and looks like rain.  We have eat brakfast and are geten redy to start on again.  The boys are geten the horses redy . Plenty of nice stone to build with hear.  quite a number of stone houses thrue hear.  Land good and good crops hear this summer I never see better corn and the farmers say they had good wheat hear this season .  Everyone seems  happy and in good spirits .  I like the looks of Kansas better then any cuntry I ever see.  If I had a farm hear and paid for I think I could content myself.  This is Camp stop Grants ass , as he got a spanken hear fur upseten the table .  We now start on over a strate of raw prairtae with hear and there a good  farm   The houses hear on farms are a grate deal bettcr than they are in Iowa   I see a lofty peak rise high above the level of the prairia to our left  to right witch was quite a grand site .  We now come to a big iron bridge across the big blue river a 1/2 of a mile from Wattervill.  The bluffs rise up to 200 feet above the river.  There is a thick growth ot timber on its banks.  We camp for diner at the north end of the bridge hear we parted with Mr. Evaret.  They took west and   we south.  We went thrue Waterville  Hear is a railroad .  We pass on south .  Hear the cuntry is stony and ruff Some nice houses and orcherds.  Rather ruff farm land.  We come on  NEXT PAGE OF DIARY RETURN TO INDEX
