building. They traded the livery barn for a farm two miles north and two miles east of Bennington (this is where Bob Quinn now lives); they lived there several years.  In 1914, they moved back to Bennington where he built a garage; his son, Earl, worked as a mechanic in this garage and at the present time is the owner of this business. Mrs. Earl Collins has worked at this business since the completion of this building.

Their son, Roy, has farmed the farm seven miles east of Bennington down through the years. He is now residing in Bennington and works some of the time for Scheibler Truck Line.

While they resided in Bennington, they also had another son, Elwin, who runs the White Truck Agency in Salina Kansas, and a daughter, Helen, who works as a secretary for Holiday Motors in Salina, Kansas.

EARL married Ruth Miller. They had one daughter, Phyllis, who married Raymond Watts. They had one son, Curtiss. ROY married Helen Payne and they had one son, James, who married Merdith Miller. They have three children: Paul, David and Ann. ELWIN married Louise Mangold and they have two children, Jolene and Elwin, Jr. In 1925, Mr. and Mrs. Collins, Helen and Elwin moved to Salina, Kansas, where Helen still lives with her mother in the home they built on 430 Putman Avenue. James died of a heat attack on August 11, 1940, during a vacation with the family. He is buried in the Bennington Cemetery. He and Joseph Boyle were born on adjoining farms in Canada and are laid to rest on adjoining lots in the cemetery.

All of the children are living at present; they live either in Bennington or Salina and most of their descendants also live in this locality.

DALE FAMILY HISTORY

William Frederick Dale was born February 15,1852, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He was the son of W. F. Dale and Miriam Kline Dale. The family migrated to Kansas in 1860. Mr. Dale was married to Miriam Ellen Corlis, December 14,1879. Except for a few years spent in Topeka, Kansas, the family resided in Bennington the rest of their lives. Mr. Dale operated the city dray and he, with his faithful horse "McCinty," were daily seen on the city streets. The family maintained a small farm in the country.

Mr. Dale was a member of the Bennington band, conducted by his brother, Chas. Dale, who operated a jewelery store here for many years.

The Dales had two children, Maud E and Lewis Levi. A sister of Mr. Dale was Mrs. Rachel Hawkins, wife of Levi Hawkins. Mr. Dale died in 1927. The son, Lewis Levi Dale, instructed in band by his uncle, the late Chas. Dale, began playing in the band at an early age. He later played in the Sousa's Band during the First World War. In 1920, Lewis Dale was united in marriage to Meta Jummel. Two sons, Paul Edwin and Robert C. (Bobby), were born to this union. Paul Edwin passed away in 1929; his father, Lewis, passed away March 14,1959. Lewis and Meta Dale's son, Robert C. Dale, and his wife, Velta Lee (Stanley) were united in marriage in 1950. They are the parents of two daughters, Sherry Lee and Yvonne Diane.

Maud E was united in marriage to Charles Fisher, June 8, 1905. They had two children, Willa and Jacob Dale. Willa, now Mrs. Vic Merryfield, lives in Minneapolis and Jacob (Jake), with his wife, Mildred, and daughter, Carol, live on the Fisher home place southeast of Bennington.

DALRYMPLE FAMILY HISTORY

Following the Civil War, Thomas Dalrymple married Martha Abrahams and they came from Indiana to the wilds of Kansas in 1863. They settled near Lindsey, Kansas, where they took up a homestead and built a log house, later moving to Culver, Kansas. Many Indians came near their Lindsey home and Mrs. Dalrymple many times grabbed her two small children, Effie B. (Mrs. Frost) and Grant and hid in the nearby tall prairie grass till the intruders were gone. Grant, younger of the two children, was born July 30,1864, and was one of the first white children born in Ottawa County.

Later on the family moved to Culver, Kansas, where five more children blessed this union.
As all pioneers, the Dalrymples endured many hardships. In 1891, Grant Dalrymple married
Eva Ashton, who was a native of Ohio, being born there March 19,1870. Mrs. Dalrymple was
