CHURCHES, SCHOOLS AND ORGANIZATIONS
Churches and schools were very important to the settlers of any county. Many churches were started in school buildings and later moved to seperate buildings.
This is a copy of a souvenir from Germany School that is owned by Mrs Bud Hamilton whose parents lived in that district and also a souvenir booklet from Gabhart school located in the north east corner of Ottawa County sent to us by William Reed
In the early days there were over 100 school districts in the county, spaced so that children would not have to walk more than two or three miles to get to school. Of those districts there are now only two left, USD 239 and USD 240. There are attendance centers at Minneapolis, Delphos, Tescott and Benninton. At the general election in November of 2002 the North Dist. voted to close the Delphos center.
